No more than 2 days before the International Day of the Biodiversity

May 22, 2010, the International Day for the Biodiversity, is an excellent reason to promote Biodiversity through a flashmob. More than just a general mobilization, the flashmob in question would be also international. In more than 12 cities around the world are already working on an International Year of Biodiversity Flashmob.

May 22 is an important date, but not the only one. Until December 31, 2010, the International Year of Biodiversity Flashmob organizers have the choice of the day to produce their local event.

To do so, the organizers should;
  • gather a crowd
    • create a fan page; facebook, blogger, twitter, myspace...
    • invite friends, friends' friends, family, colleagues...
    • post classifieds
    • write a press release, spread it and make some follow-up
  • choose a location
    • obtain the city permits if necessary
  • choose a day
    • to get more people as possible, choose an evening or a week-end
  • get a local sponsorship
    • create a detailled folder of the project
    • contact a local celebrity
    • contact the city
Next step is to setup communicate with everybody to answer every questions up to the event.

Let us know if you have any question.

    International Year of Biodiversity Flashmob

    April 5th 2010

The General Assembly of the United Nations declared 2010 as the International Year of Biodiversity. It designated the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity to raise awareness on biodiversity at the global level.

Kiff Media, a communication agency, has been mandated by the Secretariat of the Convention of Biological Diversity to manage the 2010 International Year of Biodiversity Flashmob. It is to organise the event in Montreal, to liaise and coordinate with organisers around the world.

A Flashmob is a gathering of individuals in a public place that carry out actions agreed in advance, before dispersing quickly.
The International Year of Biodiversity Flashmob will take place on Saturday, May 22nd 2010 - the International Day for Biological Diversity - in as many cities and locations around the world as possible.

Organisers should coordinate all the Flashmobs in their respective countries if more than one city wishes to participate. Every organiser should motivate, spread the information, and organise the event nationwide.

Please fill out the form to announce your flashmob organiser participation at http://w.kiffmedia.com/2010enrollment

    Our goal is to raise awareness of the public to the conservation of all living species on our planet and the threats they face. We wish to convey the message of the United Nations for the International Year of Biodiversity;

    Biodiversity is life
    Biodiversity is our life

To organise this event, we call on Governments, non-governmental organisations and other partners to help spread the word and support the event nationwide.

    Proposed scenario:

To cover the event, we want to invite a local celebrity to say "Now is the time to act" at the beginning.

Then, zoom-out of the camera, focus on the crowd behind the celebrity, all dressed in green, and shout “biodiversity is life, biodiversity is our life”.

A camera takes the stage from above, to film the shape and morphing (see attached presentation).

Groups of individuals will form three figures, successively, two species of animals or plants, representing the country or city in which the event takes place. The final shape will be a representation of the “2010” logo of the International Year of Biodiversity.

Three drawings on the ground will be necessary for the placement of individuals. The cameras should film the crowd from above to see the shape.

However, if you want to be creative and make more representations, you are welcome.

Here is a presentation of the stages: http://w.kiffmedia.com/2010flashmob

    Directed video clip:

Each clip we receive will be posted on the website of the International Year of Biodiversity: www.cbd.int/2010 and on Youtube: youtube.com/user/chmcbd . Videos should try to respect the following criteria:
    • Size of the crowd
    • A beuatiful metamorphosis (fluidity, artistry, imagination, ...)
    • Image quality

Please send them to Kiff Media to create the final video editing.

The final clip will be a montage of the performances, ending with the "2010" logo.

    Note to organizers:

We are aware that some countries have limited means to achieve such a clip. Please note that we will be honoured to receive all clips, pictures, audio tracks, comments.

Do not lose sight of the main purpose of this event: to inform people about biodiversity. We kindly ask you to mobilise people for this cause and show the importance biodiversity for our lives.

    Don't forget:
    Biodiversity is life
    Biodiversity is our life
